Last batch for a while. Although I’m finding the Last batch for a while.
Although I’m finding these rather satisfying. A similar feeling to my early days in a darkroom - wondering how the image will turn out - if at all.
.
These ones are of the Starship Methodist near where I live.
.
Colors got nutty. I lost the action scripts I paid for when I started this. So I am relying on memory / guess work.
.
I did tart up the colors on one. Don’t usually do that.
.
Tons more on my behance portfolio page. Link in bio.

The baffling world of digital infrared photography.
Just got this awesome new background from my local Just got this awesome new background from my local dollar store - always buy local. It might be a drawer liner or table cloth. Whatever it is, it’s my new backdrop.

FASHION. BEAUTY. CHARM. Part 3. . Perhaps there is FASHION. BEAUTY. CHARM. Part 3.
.
Perhaps there is a level of identity because of the lack of identity, all that’s left is the ‘uniform’ - the ‘what’s left’ with our visual evaluation. When I’d take my photo students on field trips in town we’d crack up at the shop mannequins - basically the ones that were a body form without a head. Some of these images remind me of that visual - part clothes advertisement part shop mannequin. With this project, the only planned part was color matching. I did pay attention to which colors fit together more than I normally do, and in the studio all the photographs were taken with natural light.
.
Well, big thanks again to @svanyc (Continuing Education) and @elinorcarucci (amazing photographer) definitely look up her work and books, sign up for a workshop someday.

The leftovers are all on my Behance portfolio page - link in bio.

FASHION. BEAUTY. CHARM. Part 2. . I had been buyin FASHION. BEAUTY. CHARM. Part 2.

I had been buying several different types of face masks and neck gaiters - I needed a lot for work and bike riding, so I’d be washing them all time. Many of the gaiters were a bit cheap, and didn’t install any confidence they would be that effective. I took them to my studio and decided to take a series of self portraits, but with the intention of distance and obscurity.
.
To me this felt like how things were going - I don’t know what you look like, and you don’t know what I look like.
.
Since the material was stretchy I could put ping pong balls and Halloween masks from the dollar store under the stretchy fabric - I’d look all lumpy or skull face head - to further amplify (or complete) this new level of visual strangeness.
So, yellow is the complementary color of purple (a So, yellow is the complementary color of purple (and vice versa) if we mix purple with yellow we get Brussels sprouts. This will be on the test.
.
I did use purple and yellow smoke at the same time - the yellow took hold at the end (not pictured in video).
.
Put a slow mover piano track on this one - attempt to alter the vibe.
Ever wonder what would happen if... . Yeah i did i Ever wonder what would happen if...
.
Yeah i did it again. Why not? Got a box of special effects smoke and a camera.
.
I think next time i will work out some camera movement - add to the interest. For those that asked before, I did mix colors - came out funky - will post that next.
FASHION. BEAUTY. CHARM. . As the education of a ph FASHION. BEAUTY. CHARM.

As the education of a photographer continues - early in September 2020 I enrolled in an online continuing education class at the SVA. The course title: Photography in Pandemic Times, instructed by @elinorcarucci. It was great to be in a class with other photographers whose experience was at all different levels. The technical part really didn’t matter much, as it was about documenting what we were experiencing. Many in this class were physically displaced from what was more familiar - but had an advantage to move to a less densely populated location.
.
For me, the locations were the same - but level of fear, anxiety and uncertainty very high - certainly, a shared concern. To connect with a class on a weekly basis helped anchor my wavering mental health and actively engage in the creative exploration of distance and isolation.
.
Fashion, Beauty, Charm is one of the series I developed during this class.

More digital infrared folded buildings. This one l More digital infrared folded buildings. This one looked like a spaceship before I even started and took the pictures.
.
Funny thing about digital infrared - bright sunny days are not so ideal for the colors I like. I do like this orange and purple combo, but want to get colors I got before.
.
Gotta check the data.

This is The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, PA - opened in 1955.
Many years ago I saw several photos in an exhibiti Many years ago I saw several photos in an exhibition by Wendel White. His series titled Schools for the Colored had a real impact on me. The series documented the architecture of the segregated schools in the States. His photos show the architecture in its current state. There’s one in Trenton, NJ that I recognized. In his text the series is described as: The architecture and geography of America’s educational apartheid.
.
I show his work to the students in my intro and advanced photo classes.
.
With this in mind, I wanted to start a project along the lines of referencing his treatment to the images. The process that I find brilliant is isolating the building - but leaving in some power lines, some trees, metal things in the way (I call street furniture) - stuff that ordinarily might ruin the shot, but you have to accept that it is there - in the landscape of your subject matter.
.
These are digital infrared images of the Church building in Harbourton Village, NJ - established in 1803.
The mirroring is to simply alter the reality of the architecture.
.
I have a lot more on the way that look like spaceships.
